The Journey to Self-Transformation: Obesity is a curse

Driven by society's labels, I was often termed obese, and my relationship with food was far from healthy. Over time, I became accustomed to this label. People would mock me, and out of anger and frustration, I would embark on extreme diets. Sometimes, I even fasted for three full days. These drastic measures were short-lived and backfired, leading to overeating on cheat days and no significant weight loss. Emotionally drained, I confined myself to my room and had no social life, plagued by self-doubt.

Adding to my distress, my mother was gravely ill and was not recovering. Witnessing her undergo painful tests in the ICU was traumatic. She held my hand tightly, begging me to stay with her in ICU, out of fear. The emotional pain was overwhelming. It was during one of these moments that I realized how fortunate many of us are to have healthy bodies, and yet we often abuse them. My obesity was a problem I had created, but I wasn't addressing it. Seeing my mother, who had always been on a good diet and active, succumb to her illness so suddenly was heartbreaking. Life is unfair at times.

At 39, I felt a deep fear for myself. The path I was on was destructive, and I needed to change. Having experienced the pitfalls of fad and crash diets, I sought something sustainable. I consulted with nutritionists and finally found a plan that suited my needs. Through my weight loss journey, I learned that extreme diets can cause more harm than good, leading to hormonal imbalances and metabolic disorders that result in other serious health issues.

Determined to lose weight sustainably, I followed a balanced plan and successfully lost 18 kilograms in seven months, none of which came back. This journey taught me the importance of treating my body with respect and making long-term lifestyle changes for my health and well-being.

Remember, your body is your address in this world; kindly take utmost care of it.
